Rose Canyon Fisheries is a unique collaboration between a scientific institution and a private investment group dedicated to pioneering sustainable, offshore aquaculture in the U.S.
Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute (HSWRI), a San Diego-based 501(c)(3) marine research institute, and Cuna Del Mar, a private equity firm, formed Rose Canyon Fisheries to permit, construct and operate the first finfish farm in U.S. federal waters.
Eventually producing 5,000 metric tons (11 million pounds) of fish annually, it will create a new source of seafood to meet growing demand. Ultimately, this may well launch a new industry creating enormous economic benefits and providing safe, healthy, sustainable and locally sourced seafood in numerous coastal communities.
